The university also extended its supremacy in the high school division, clinching its ninth straight overall title.
The Thomasian community was visibly in high spirits following another stellar campaign in the country’s premier collegiate sports league.
“UST and its community are happy. [The championship] only shows the continued dominance of our sports program in the UAAP,” said UST IPEA director Fr. Rodel Cancancio, OP.
“It will continue to serve as a challenge for all of us to do better next season, and I know the other UAAP schools would feel the same way.”
The Growling Tigers, UST’s collegiate athletes, earned medals in 24 out of 31 events—eight golds, seven silvers, and nine bronzes—to secure their 48th general championship.
The same level of dominance was shown by the Tiger Cubs, UST’s high school athletes, who bagged 23 medals across 24 events. They finished with 11 golds, 11 silvers, and one bronze to clinch their 24th overall crown in the division.
Season 87 host University of the Philippines finished second in the collegiate standings with 269 points, while La Salle placed third with 261 points.
The crowning of UST in Season 87 couldn’t be more fitting, as it is also set to host Season 88.
