MANILA, Philippines—Blackwater drew big contributions from rising star Christian David to pick up just its second win in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Coach Jeffrey Cariaso heaped praise toward David, who has been one of the few bright spots in the Bossing’s abysmal campaign this conference.

“I’m proud of his work ethic and how he really came on his own in regards to wanting to improve,” said Cariaso after a 97-82 whipping of Terrafirma on Sunday night.
“He’s being one of our cornerstones for the team and that’s a big responsibility for a young guy.”
David finished with a monster double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds while sinking three triples.
However, David wasn’t the only young gun to show off his firepower as Sedrick Barefield also came to play with 12 points and eight assists.

The 26-year-old David has no problem living up to expectations as the No. 2 pick in the 2023 draft.
“He really stepped up in this conference and really he’s one of our leaders, not just in scoring but also in rebounding and defending. He’s getting a better feel now,” said the top coach.
“I’ve been here for almost two years now and I have to give credit to the coach for believing in me and trusting the process… I took on the challenge and he told me to just be consistent every game and that’s what I’m working on,” David said.
Blackwater aims to finish its Philippine Cup campaign on a winning note Friday against Phoenix on Friday at the same venue.
