MANILA, Philippines—Some of the University of Santo Tomas’ main cogs in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament are facing some struggles off the court.
Just last week, Golden Tigress Regina Jurado played with the flu and most recently on Saturday, libero and team captain Detdet Pepito entered the post-game press conference coughing here and there.
Fortunately, UST has someone to rely on in the form of senior spiker, Pia Abbu.

MANILA, Philippines — Cassie Carballo admitted she had a hard time getting her rhythm in their first two games in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.
With the trust of her coaches and teammates, Carballo paced the Tigresses to a come-from-behind 25-12, 22-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-13 win over the De La Salle Lady Spikers for their second straight win on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.
“The support system, especially the coaches, is really important. I wouldn’t be here if they didn’t trust me. That’s what I hold on to—the purpose we have. We always remind each other of it because it feels so much better to play when we know what we’re playing form,” said Carballo, who had 22 excellent sets on top of two points.
